Aesthetica Short Film Festival: Call for Entries!

An established and dynamic player on the UK film festival circuit, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) is an annual celebration of short film from across the world. Championing and supporting short filmmaking, the 2013 festival screened 300 films from 36 countries across 15 iconic locations spanning York’s historic and contemporary spaces. Industry professionals, filmmakers and diverse audiences travelled to York from Japan, Los Angeles, Kuwait, Israel, Canada, Norway, Sweden, France and Belgium amongst other places to experience memorable short film.

ASFF 2014 is now open for entries, offering both emerging and established filmmakers the opportunity to engage with new, international audiences and interact with some of the biggest personalities in the film industry today. Working with leading film organisations such as BAFTA, Channel 4, Warp, Film 4, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Film London, Raindance and more, ASFF presents a series of engaging masterclasses to explore key issues affecting film culture. In addition to screenings throughout the ASFF weekend, prizes include £500 for the Festival Winner, £250 for the People’s Choice Winner, screenings at a number of other UK festivals, coverage in Aesthetica Magazine, the international contemporary art and culture publication, and editorial on the Aesthetica and ASFF blogs. The time limit is 30 minutes and categories for entry are: Drama, Comedy, Thriller, Animation, Documentary, Artists’ Film, Music Video and Experimental.

ASFF have also announced two exciting new strands for 2014 – Advertising and Fashion. It is the only UK film festival to represent these genres, presenting a rare opportunity to showcase film genres that are currently inventing and re-defining themselves. ASFF is looking for filmmakers pushing the boundaries of their medium; from experimental methods to narrative approaches, and from an investigation into contentious issues in society today, to a more formal approach to the mechanisms of moving image-making.

ASFF 2014 will take place in between 6 – 9 November 2014. CLICK HERE to view last year’s trailer. Entries close 31 May. Visit www.asff.co.uk for more information and to enter.
